Fraser’s Hill also known as "LITTLE ENGLAND" is a Hill Station built by the British is a popular Hill Resort anong locals and foreigners alike. The tranquillity, cool mountain air and abundance of green foliage has made Fraser’s Hill a favourite destination for nature lovers.
Located 105km north of Kuala Lumpur, and 1,524 metres above sea level, the hill station is a stop for migratory birds from the harsh winter of Siberia to the cooler climes way, way south in New Zealand and Australia between March and June.
It was a bird-watching treat for a gathering of local and foreign tourists who turned up for the Fraser’s Hill International Bird Race on June 21-22.
They got to look at over 250 bird species like the Helang Berjambul (Blyth’s Hawk Eagle), Rimba Murai Bukit (Mountain Sulvetta), Kelicap Jantung Gunung (Streaked Spidercatcher) and Burung Matahari Gunung (Grey-Chinned Minret).
“I saw many species of birds that I have never seen before in Japan,” said Kozue Yamaguchi, a first-time participant of the bird race.
The Bird Race, which started in 1987, is organised by Tourism Pahang with the collaboration of the Fraser’s Hill Development Corporation.
The event is also held to document discovery of new bird species.
