Our website was down for half a day. It was a very long outage.
We take full responsibility for this. Unfortunately, since we are 100% free, we do not have our own data center, and we have to carefully select the server we host with for financial performance.
It is clear that we did not do a good enough job selecting our web host.
We are hosting with eBoundHost.com, which we started using in October. We selected this company to provide our web hosting needs because of good feedback regarding their support, and because their plans are affordable.
However, what we discovered was that their support has been incompetent and hard to come by. And today we had a 12 hour outage, which in this day and age is unacceptable. At the time of writing, we still have received no explanation from eBoundHost regarding why our server was dead for half a day.
Needless to say, we will be moving to a different web host soon. We are aware this will cause further problems, as we will have to shut accounts down while the website data is moved. But I'm sure you'll agree that the pain of a move will be worth it.
I apologise deeply to all our valued users who posted listings with us, and to those customers who tried to visit the website to view listings. I understand that you were all terribly inconvenienced. I understand that you were let down.
Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that it will not happen again. But I will do my best that it won't, and I will put my money where my mouth is. From now on we will be paying for hosting three times as much as we were paying previously. This leaves our revenues near zero, but you, the users, are more important to us than revenues.
We hope you will forgive us and keep adding listings to Ah Yer!
