Massive Realignment, Again
We have stopped using country code web addresses, which we introduced a few weeks ago to take advantage of "geotargetting", a new feature at the search engine Google, which allows websites to target their content to a particular region. We hoped that the new country code web addresses would help us rank better in Google and reach a wider audience.
However, quite the reverse happened. Over the past 2-3 weeks, traffic to Ah Yer! dropped, like a stone. We spent a week investigating and determined this was due to an obscure phenomenon called "subdomain sandboxing" at Google. Consequently we got rid of the subdomains and hopefully traffic will be back to normal within a week.
Thereafter it we should be back on the growth trajectory we used to be. Just some slight turbulence, ladies and gentlemen, we are still on track to soar ever higher. Keep uploading those listings!

Major Re-Engineering at Ah Yer!
In order to take advantage of a new feature at one of the major search engines, we have overhauled the systemic structure of our web site. We hope that this overhaul will improve traffic and boost the number of incoming inquiries. The user experience remains the same, but, as you may have noticed, the locations of listings pages are now different.
We have tested the web site after implementing the changes, but if you notice anything odd or amiss, don't hesitate to drop us a line.

Hardware Upgrade Coming!
You may have noticed that our website occasionally returns "Internal Server Error" instead of the web page it was supposed to be displaying. This is because of some long-running issues at our web hosting company. Since the web hosting company does not seem to have any plans to upgrade their servers, we will be moving to a new web host this week.
This will involve a temporary hold on account activity, perhaps about an hour. We will notify you in advance here, in the Update section.
Meanwhile, look forward to a faster website and more reliability from Ah Yer!

Maintenance Completed
The maintenance referred to in the preceding post has been completed. You can already log in again and start adding more listings. Note that for a while your Security Log will continue to show a blank, as we are still updating the user activity logs.

Database Maintenance Today
We will be carrying out brief maintenance work on our system. For about an hour from now, all account related functions (such as adding or editing listings) will be suspended. We hate these little interruptions as much as you do, and this is only our second time to do something like this in 2007. But to cope with a growing user base, we need to do a little refinement to ensure that all functions continue to perform smoothly, and shutting down the Account area is the only way to do it.
We will post here again when the work is completed. You might want to keep refreshing this page using the RELOAD button to make sure you get the latest version.
